Mobile is the birthplace of Mardi Gras in the U.S.; the Mobile Carnival Museum celebrates the merriment. The USS Alabama and the Bellingrath Gardens & Home are also must-sees.

BayFest is Oct 2-4; it's Alabama's largest music festival. Mardi Gras parades run regularly from January 22 until February 9 with many passing in front of the Battle House.
