Online Bill-Paying Services: Login for a Lesson in
Myth vs. Reality

It's human nature to approach new technology with
caution - especially when it involves our money.
Take ATMs, for example. Sure, we count on them
today for convenient, around-the-clock banking, but
there was a time when people were afraid to use
them...afraid their passwords would be cracked, and
their accounts drained. Blame it on concerns about
online security, but some people feel the same way
about online bill paying services these days.
Learn more about why paying your bills online is more
secure than you might realize.

How Much Money Should You Save?

The answer is actually a lot simpler than you may
think. How much income you should save does not
ultimately lie in some online quiz or magic formula
you find in a magazine. It lies solely with you.
It's your needs and wants: that new car or truck,
a once-in-a-lifetime vacation or your place in the
sun during retirement. It's not impossible to build
your savings. In fact, it's relatively simple if you
follow the right steps.
Find out how.

Mortgage Refinancing: When It Makes Sense --
and When It Doesn't

Just when everyone thought that the mortgage
refinancing party was over, it's now started back
up all over again. Mortgage rates hit rock bottom
last summer and then started creeping back up slowly
through the end of the year, leading many observers to
predict that the party was coming to an end. But that
hasn't happened. According to the Mortgage Bankers
Association, rates ticked down slightly once again to
5.41% and 4.73% for 30- and 15-year fixed-rate
mortgages, respectively for the week of March 15. And,
the number of refinancing applications rose by nearly
40% that week, with lenders taking more applications
than they have in any week since the peak of
refinancing activity last July.

QUICK TIPS FROM US

How to Establish a Secure Password
1) Avoid weak passwords that:
- include personal information about the user.
- consist of known words that can be found in many
hacker password dictionaries.
- contain number or letter sequences or letter-to-
number substitutions, such as E for 3 or
O for zero.

2) Create strong passwords that:
- are eight characters or longer.
- don't contain any part of a user's full name or
username.
- don't use any term that could easily be guessed by
someone who is familiar with you.
- don't contain personal identification numbers,
including those on a license plate, your telephone
number, birth date or any part of your Social
Security number.
- contain characters from three of the four classes
of characters:
- English uppercase letters (A, B, C).
- English lowercase letters (a, b, c).
- Arabic numerals (1, 2, 3).
- Special characters (!, *, $ or other punctuation
symbols).
