Greg Norman was named Golfer of the Century in Australia following a vote of PGA of Australia members. Norman finished first among voting by all members of the PGA, including tournament, club and teaching professionals. "Greg has had a dynamic impact on the entire golf industry in Australia and this honor is testament to his enormous contribution," Geoff Scott, president of the PGA, said. Norman won two major championships -- the 1986 and 1993 British Opens -- among more than 90 worldwide victories, including 20 on the PGA Tour.

Greg Norman realized early in his career that if he were to compete and succeed on the world stage, and eventually serve as a role model for the next generation of Australians, that he needed to study his fellow competitors and develop an image of his own. He knew he had to evolve from the shy 21-year-old who hid in a corner after his first professional victory to a confident and commanding presence that could flourish in the spotlight. That evolution is complete and now Norman accepts his role as a mentor to the next generation of Australian golfer with immense pride. His influence in Australia, and throughout the world, is far reaching.

Greg Norman has earned more than $1 million five times on the PGA Tour, including three Arnold Palmer Awards as the Tour's leading money winner. He was also the first person in Tour history to surpass $10 million in career earnings. But his crowning achievements are two British Open Championships. The first came at Turnberry in Scotland, where he shot a tournament-record-tying 63 en route to a five-shot victory. The second was at Royal St. George's, where he trailed by one stroke entering the final day and closed with 64 to win by two. In total, Norman has won 91 professional events, including 20 PGA Tour titles. He also boasts 29 top-10 finishes in majors, or more than 38 percent of those he has entered.
