Kids of all ages love a good scavenger hunt... why not make the hunt both fun and educational (they won’t even realize they’re learning!)? This game can be made easier for little ones just learning the alphabet or harder for older kids by adding a timer or making it a competition. Plus, it’s portable fun that can be played at the park, in the front yard, or indoors for a fun rainy day activity!
Shop at Dollar Tree — Here’s What You’ll Need:
- Alphabet Magnets or Letter Cutouts
- 26 Toys or Common Household Objects that Start with Each Letter of the Alphabet
- Prizes (optional)
Easy Step-by-Step Directions:
- Lay out the alphabet letters on the floor or sidewalk.
- Spread out objects that begin with each letter of the alphabet and have the kids find each one and put with its corresponding letter.
Fun Tips:
- Let younger kids work together to complete the hunt.
- Hide the objects Easter-Egg-Hunt style to make it a little harder.
- Put all of the letters in a bag and let each kid draw a letter. Once the right object is found, let them draw another letter... the one with the most letters wins. Give them a prize from Dollar Tree, or even better, let them keep the objects they find.
- Use a timer (yep, we carry those, too!) to see if they can break their own records.
- Skip the objects and just hide the letters... see how fast everyone can find and line up the alphabet.
