Snowman Jar

This whimsical little craft has clever all wrapped up! Both fun and functional, they’re so easy to make that you can even get the kids involved. Fill the jars with any variety of tasty holiday treats, such as candy, cookies, or nuts, assemble and decorate the jars, and you’re done! They’re a fun and affordable way to give gifts to everyone on your list. Plus, they make an adorable holiday accent that you can display and fill year after year.

Here’s What You'll Need (Shop online or at a Dollar Tree store):

• Two or Three Glass or Plastic Jars with Screw-Tight Lids (any jar or container will work, even mason jars)
• Black and Orange Construction Paper
• White Glue
• Wire-Edged Ribbon (about 2" thick)
• Candy, Nuts, or Other Treats to Fill the Jars
  

 

 

Easy Step-by-Step Directions:

1. Center and glue the lid from the bottom jar to the bottom of the top jar. Allow to dry completely (this ensures that the top jar won’t fall off the bottom jar).
2. Cut 10-15 small black circles out of the black construction paper. Glue 3-5 circles on the bottom jar to form the buttons. Glue 5-10 circles on the top jar to form the mouth.
3. Cut 2 large black circles out of the black construction paper, then glue them on the top jar to form the eyes.
4. Cut a small triangle out of the orange construction paper to create a "carrot" nose, then glue it on the top jar between the eyes and mouth.
5. Cut a 1- to 2-ft. piece of wire-edged ribbon and tie it around the neck of the snowman (this should hide the lid of the base jar). Cut the very end of the ribbon a few times to look like the fringe detail on a scarf.
6. To create the brim of the hat, cut a large circle out of black construction paper and then cut out the center so it will just slip over the lip of the jar (this should be shaped like a donut).
7. Create the upper portion of the hat by cutting a long rectangle out of the black construction paper, wrapping it around the perimeter of the lid, and gluing it closed. This should be about 2" tall and 5-10" wide, depending on the diameter of the lid.
8. Place the brim of the hat over the top jar’s opening, and then place the top of the hat over the lid.
9. Fill the jars with your favorite candy and enjoy!
